Warrant of Arrest & Parliamentary Summons for Whistle Blower

The Sierra Leone Police has on Monday July 31, 2023, issued a warrant of arrest for popular media analyst and political commentator, Mohamed Faray Kargbo. The House of Parliament has also summoned him to appear before them next week.

It follows series of revelations about corruption in Sierra Leone’s House of Parliament and by extension the Government of Sierra Leone.

The renowned journalist cum communication specialist who now works for the Monuments and Relics Commission, Ministry of Tourism and Cultural Affairs made series of remarks on radio stations during the run up to and after the June 2023 elections.

In a rather unprecedented but heroic move, he recently published a story which would inevitably land him in hot waters with the government and might equally cost him his job.

Among other things, he explained how the Committee on Finance has been soliciting funds from all ministries, departments and agencies prior to endorsing their budgets. As an insider, he revealed how their office has been bribing the committee as a prerequisite to get their budgets approved.

This is the latest on similar expose that has been done in Sierra Leone about the unending corrupt practices of the Maada Bio led SLPP government.

This is not the first time a media personality has accused the government, the US based Africanist Press has constantly been exposing graft in the Maada Bio led administration including reckless spending by the First Lady, Fatima Maada Bio since 2018.

It shouldn’t be a surprise if the Anti-Corruption Commission soon goes after the latest whistle-blower in town.

The revelations have been described as anti-government and a ploy to bring the government down according to the Ministry of Information.

Here is the full story as published by some local tabloids on Monday July 17, 2023.
