Chinese Ambassador & Delegation Extend Courtesy Visit to Minister of Sports
A distinguished delegation from the Chinese Embassy, led by Ambassador Wang Qing, conducted a courtesy call to the office of Minister of Sports, Augusta James-Teima, at Bishop House, Brookfield’s, Freetown, on Friday, August 4, 2023.
The purpose of the visit was twofold: to extend
congratulations to Minister James-Teima on her appointment as the first female
Sports Minister, and to reaffirm the enduring partnership between China and
Sierra Leone within the realm of sports.
Welcoming the esteemed guests, the Ministry’s Permanent
Secretary, Morrison Gboyor, conveyed their gratitude for the visit. Ambassador
Wang Qing praised Minister Augusta James-Teima and the Sierra Leonean
government for providing a groundbreaking opportunity for female leadership in
a traditionally male-dominated domain. He also expressed his eagerness to
maintain the productive collaboration established during the tenure of the
former Minister, Ibrahim Nyelenkeh. The Ambassador assured that the Ministry’s
requests and concerns would be attentively addressed.
Highlighting the robust bilateral ties between the
People’s Republic of China and Sierra Leone, Ambassador Wang Qing underscored
the significance of the National Stadium, a symbol of their enduring
partnership. He stated, “Our commitment is steadfast, and our longstanding
relationship spans many years. We are dedicated to fulfilling our
responsibilities in a timely manner and ensuring that received requests are
meticulously attended to.”
Minister Augusta James-Teima welcomed the timely visit,
emphasizing its pivotal importance. “This visit holds great significance for
both me and the Ministry of Sports. It underscores the urgency of forging
partnerships,” she noted. Minister James-Teima expressed a strong desire for
continuity, acknowledging the instrumental role played by China in the
development of numerous nations. She thanked Ambassador Wang Qing for his
visit, emphasizing their collaborative efforts. “We are more than just partners
in work. Sport is an essential aspect for all, and with your invaluable
support, including modern stadium facilities, we envision a promising future,”
she asserted.
Director of Sports, Haroun Korjie, extended heartfelt
gratitude to Ambassador Wang Qing for the visit and conveyed optimism regarding
the continuation of their robust alliance.
